New small area population estimates

Friday 5 April 2024 2.43pm

The latest estimates of the mid-2022 population of small areas are now available to download from Population around the county.

Figures are available for the numbers of people in Lower Super Output Areas (LSOAs), wards and parishes, by age group and sex.

Key points include –

  • Over half of Herefordshire’s residents live in areas defined as ‘rural’, with the majority of these in the most rural ‘village and dispersed’ areas
  • A third of residents live in Hereford city
  • The built-up and rural areas of the county grew at a similar rate to each other over the last decade (2011 to 2021). The overall resident population grew more rapidly during the previous decade (2001 to 2011), with the built-up areas of the county having grown more rapidly than the rural areas
  • Hereford city has relatively high proportions of young adults and young children; the most rural areas have relatively more people of older working and early retirement age and the market towns have a profile more similar to the county overall
