Tuesday 25 February 2020 5.02pm

To mark the tenth anniversary of Professor Sir Michael Marmot’s landmark review of health inequalities in England Fair Society, Healthy Lives a new, updated report Health Equity in England: The Marmot Review 10 Years On has just been published by the Health Foundation.   The report presents some very significant findings, showing that people can expect to spend more of their lives in poor health and that the improvements to life expectancy seen throughout the twentieth century have now stalled, and have actually started to decline for the poorest 10% of women.  In addition, the health gap has grown between wealthy and deprived areas.  Where you live also matters; people living in a deprived area of the North East having a life expectancy five years shorter than those living in a similarly deprived area in London.
