Growing up in Herefordshire 2021 survey

In recognition of the fact that there is a lack of comprehensive local information on children and young people’s lifestyles and behaviours, for the first time in over 10 years Herefordshire Council have commissioned a new children and young people survey.  Schools across Herefordshire are invited to take part in the survey, which is planned to take place from January 2021.

The survey will look at key points in children’s and young people’s development;  providing much-needed local information that will allow us to more effectively target work with young people, and will provide an agenda for action into the future. It covers many aspects of a child’s life, including diet and exercise, self-esteem and mental health, relationships and consent, alcohol, drugs and smoking, family and community life, feeling safe,  travel to school and questions relating to coronavirus.

Each participating school will be able to see their results for different year groups and genders via an online portal and also receive a tailored report showing how its own results compare to the rest of Herefordshire, free of charge. The results will represent a valuable source of evidence to support school improvement work and OFSTED inspections.

The council is working with the School Health Education Unit (SHEU), who have a wealth of experience in this area and work with schools across the country. All head teachers have been contacted with more details and information on how to participate in the survey.

We invite schools to read the information in the related documents box and then take the opportunity to participate.

A senior member of staff can sign up to the survey using the online form
